Moving Beyond The Standard Anxiety Playbook...

Susannah Long

Hi, I'm Susannah...

and this is why I do this work

Six months after having my first child, it hit me.

BAM.

Out of nowhere, I was slapped across the face with intrusive thoughts and an eruption of anxiety I had never experienced before. My mind felt loud, chaotic, and completely out of my control. The thoughts were disturbing. The fear was constant. And I couldn’t understand why this was happening.

On the outside, everything looked normal.

I was a new mom. A therapist. A capable, functioning adult. But internally, I felt like I was fighting a battle inside my own mind.

What happened next changed me forever.

Instead of trying to eliminate the thoughts or force the anxiety away, I began to explore something far more powerful: changing my relationship with my mind itself. I learned how to relate differently to thoughts, fear, and intense emotions — not by controlling them, but by understanding them and no longer being ruled by them.

That shift set me free from the exhausting fight with my own mind.

And it’s the same transformation I now help other mothers experience.

Today, through my coaching, writing, and my podcast Postpartum Changed My Life, I help mothers understand matrescence, change their relationship with anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and their own minds, and learn how to live beyond fear.

The goal isn’t to have a perfectly quiet mind, it's freedom from the battle with it.
